View these 1-minute videos to see what’s new from XIA at this year’s IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium:
NASA publishes first results from the Mars Rover PIXL instrument, which uses XIA technology to help search for signs of ancient life on Mars.
XIA is proud of its collaboration with NASA/JPL on the Mars Rover Perseverance PIXL experiment, one of several instruments mounted on the end of the Rover’s robotic arm. PIXL uses micro-focused x-ray fluorescence to provide geochemical data in the search for signs of ancient life on Mars. On July 20, 2021, NASA published PIXL’s first 2D chemical maps, accomplished with digital signal processing and fast mapping technology from XIA. The image below shows a set of 2D maps for various chemicals in a single Martian rock.
Effective April 16, 2021, XIA has moved its main offices in California from Hayward to Oakland. Please see our Contact Page for detailed information on the new mailing address.
The Mars 2020 Mission with Rover Perseverance successfully landed at Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021
XIA collaborated with NASA/JPL and contributed to the PIXL instrument on the Mars Rover, which will help search for signs of ancient life on Mars.
NASA’s mission to Mars in 2020 will look for signs of habitable conditions and microbial life in the ancient past. The rover’s Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry (PIXL) is a microfocus x-ray fluorescence instrument that will perform 2D fast mapping of rock samples with sub-mm spatial resolution, revealing the geochemical fine structure of the Martian surface. XIA’s technology and expertise is being utilized in the digital signal processing and fast mapping of the x-ray detector signal. PIXL will operate with higher spatial resolution and at higher speed than any previous planetary probe, and along with other instruments it will help answer the question “Was there ever life on Mars?”
The safety and well-being of our employees and the community at large is of primary concern during the Coronavirus pandemic, and XIA LLC is diligently complying with all State and local directives to implement social distancing procedures. However, we are pleased to announce that XIA remains open for business and is operating at or near normal capacity, while maintaining a minimal on-site presence. Our supply chain remains intact, with only minor delays in the supply and shipping of some components. We look forward to receiving and processing your orders as we journey through these difficult times together in the weeks ahead.
